Hebrew School

Our inspiring and dynamic Hebrew School provides a warm and welcoming anchor for young families to come together and connect to Jewish synagogue life here in the Poconos. All our students by the time they become Bar or Bat Mitzvah are fluent in reading Hebrew, have a basic familiarity with the prayers, holidays, Jewish history, the State of Israel and ethical norms demanded of the Jewish committment to Torah and Jewish values. As People of the Book, we make sure all our young people can read it!

Our classes are small and inviting. Our teachers are friendly and inspiring. Our curriculum is progressive yet traditional. We offer a Pre K-8 graduated curriculum, and have recently expanded to include teens as well, focusing on ethics and philosophy, taught by the Rabbi. We recently acquired a Media Center which enables us to show high quality educational films on holidays, Israel, Jewish culture and history.

Music is a basic component each week, led by the Rabbi, who has an extensive musical background. The younger grades enjoy a well rounded arts and crafts curricular supplementation. Each Shabbat the children enjoy participation in our mini Friday Night Family services, concluding with Challah and grape juice. Our classes meet on Tuesday afternoons and Friday evenings.

Debbie Smith, our administrator, coordinates the programmatic details and communications, while the Rabbi, as Principal, an experienced Jewish educator in his own right, working with the board, sets overall policies and goals.

The best thing we can say about our school is that when the dismissal bell is rung, the students are still engrossed in learning. By the second or third ring they finally and reluctantly emerge. It truly is their home for a lifetime of learning.
