A Message from the President of Temple Israel of the Poconos

Dr. Sandra Alfonsi

Temple Israel of the Poconos is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue. But it is more than just a building where we assemble for services.Temple Israel is our home. It reflects our heritage and our traditions. Its doors open to embrace us and surround us with love, understanding and compassion. It is a proud building with a long history...a history of Jewish continuity, Jewish spirituality and yes, even Jewish camaraderie. Jewish symbols greet us everywhere- menorahs, Chanukiot, mezzuzot, and Kiddush cups. Kosher foods fill its kitchen and adorn its tables on Shabbat, the High Holidays, Chanukah, Pesach and Shavuot. Spirituality abounds within its sanctuary where its Torahs wear velvet mantles ans are adorned with silver ornamanets.

Temple Israel is our home. It waits for us, ready to welcome us for spiritual happenings as well as for celebrations of Jewish Life Cycle events and secular celebrations. It yearns for the sounds of children's joyful laughter and the excited voices of adults engaged in conversation and socializing.

Temple Israel is ready for you- it offers programs to educate you and prepares social events to entertain you. Temple Israel is your home. It is not devoid of spirituality. To the contrary it is filled with endless possibilities for renewing your spirit.

All that you have to do is come. Our services await you. Our sanctuary awaits you. And for luncheons, Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties, birthday and anniversary parties, and even secular holiday parties, our social hall awaits you. Every month at Temple Israel has its own beauty and spirituality. But you need to come to be a part of it. Tell us what you would like and we will do our best to fulfill your wishes.

It is truly an honor to serve as President of Temple Israel of the Poconos and I am eager to welcome you into our home.
